About Paul Bugenhagen
Judge Paul Bugenhagen Jr is running for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals because Wisconsin deserves a judge who will uphold the rule of law and our Constitution -- including the religious liberties of all Wisconsinites.
Judge Paul Bugenhagen Jr is a lifelong Wisconsinite who was raised with his four brothers in Waukesha County. Many people know him as a coach and judge, others know him as an outdoorsman, a church member, and a family man. Now, Judge Bugenhagen hopes you will get to know him as a candidate for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Judge Bugenhagen will work to serve the community by upholding our laws and constitution. He promises to lead the community by being a positive role model for others.
Judge Bugenhagen was elected in 2015 to serve in the Waukesha County Circuit Court. After initially being assigned to the family division of the court, Judge Bugenhagen was additionally assigned the adult guardianship cases for the county. In 2017, Judge Bugenhagen added the probate and mental commitment caseload to his docket. In 2018, he was named the presiding judge of the family division. In August of this year, he will begin his scheduled rotation in the criminal court division.
In addition to upholding the law, Judge Bugenhagen has worked within the county to promote fiscal responsibility. He has helped lead projects which have saved tens of thousands of dollars in costs for Waukesha County. Judge Bugenhagen is committed to being a good steward of the community’s trust and money.
Prior to his election, Judge Bugenhagen worked as a general practitioner with offices in Waukesha and Menomonee Falls. His broad bilingual practice allowed him to gain experience in many areas of the law including civil, criminal, family, juvenile, and probate. Judge Bugenhagen attended Thomas Cooley Law school graduating magna cum laude and was a member of the law review. He attended Marquette University for his undergraduate studies and competed on the wrestling team.
Outside the courtroom, Judge Bugenhagen enjoys all things Wisconsin. He resides in Mukwonago with his wife, Crosby, and their daughter. They enjoy spending time working on their central Wisconsin farm. On weekends, you may find him coaching in a high school gymnasium; you may run into him fishing on a local lake or hiking our parks. You may even find yourself running down the street with him at a local triathlon or road race.
